Nevada Historic Markers (1-50)

Some Nevada State Historic Preservation Office Markers contain multiple versions of the same marker number from over the years. During the early years of the markers (within the first 50), they were called "Nevada Centennial Markers" or "Nevada Historic Markers". These were small metal plaques that are usually seen embedded on building walls. They had the same numbers as the more modern markers. Some of these remain in the NSHPO sequence today. Others are still in place but are no longer recognized in the NSHPO sequence. For example, No. 25 'Nevada's Capitol' which was called a Nevada Centennial Marker is still in use. No.'s 33 and 34 (Old Spanish Trail) which are called Nevada Historic Markers are as well. Many other 'Centennial' and 'Historic' Markers such as No. 19 (Ill-Fated Brothers) have been replaced by new markers with completely different subject matter. Such as the new No. 19 'Ragtown'. Both versions that I have obtained are included in the photos. Some of the newer markers have also been replaced with slightly updated versions. A little bit of content change is all that is different. Also, several have been replaced with a newer, Battle Born 150th Nevada Anniversary version. In a few cases, the marker has been missing for years. It can no longer be located. I included it as collected if I stood in the spot and it wasn't there. Olinghouse is an example of this. In a few other cases, the marker was missing for years but has now been replaced. I also included it as collected if I stood in the spot at the time it was missing. The Mormon Fort is an example of this. I hope that wasn't too confusing.
One of the older markers contains an error that may interest you. The old marker titled "Mark Twain" was kept in the current NSHPO sequence. Originally, it was No. 27. When the new markers came out, it was re-assigned as No. 28. However, the marker still reads No. 27.
35 of 50 of those currently recognized have been collected. I have also collected multiple versions of several of these. 8 of the older versions are also included.
