Pigeon Spring
Esmeralda County
AKA: Pigeon
I have not found much written about Pigeon Spring. It is believed that the mill was used between 1890 and 1907. A very small settlement built up around the mill that contained a store, saloon and roadhouse. Some say that the post office was applied for but never opened. According to ‘Nevada Post Offices- An Illustrated History’ by Gamett and Paher, the dates of July 1899 to December 1899 are listed for the post office, but was “rescinded”. I’m not sure what that means. There is at least one grave near the mill. It still contains the headstone for “Nancy Walker 1884-1906”. We also found a second unmarked area that looks like a second grave, but it is hard to be sure.
Post Office: July 1899 to Dec 1899 (See above)
Last Trip/ Road Conditions: Spring of 2013. The mill sits off a maintained dirt road. There was a sign that read, “Please respect this site. Privately owned by Pigeon Spring Ranch”. The ranch sits just to the south of the mill site.
